My father (Peter Van\’t Slot) forwarded an email from his cousin Geerten van Malkenhorst from the Netherlands announcing the good news of his recent wedding.

Here is a snippet from the message:

Some time has elapsed since you last heard of me and I still haven´t answerded your july email; I am very sorry for that. There is however a specific reason I mail you now, so let me start with that. My mother has asked me to thank you on
her behalf and that of aunt Eib for the nice card and photograph you sent aunt Eib with her birthday. Despite her age Aunt Eib is still not without a little vanity so she likes it a lot to receive a photograph when she is the main subject thereof.

Unfortunately my mother still isn´t ready to email you herself. I still have to learn her that, but alas I don´t have much time being a newlywed!!! By the way my the name of my wife is Clina, not Tina although you are not the first to make that
mistake.

Clina and I had a very nice honeymoon, although we stayed in Holland. The first night we went to the \”Rode Koper\” , which is a hotel not far from the \”Slot\” where you and your wife stayed and in fact only a stonethrow away from the
place in the woods where your Grandfather was born (de Zandmolen). The rest of the days we spent in Lochem which is a very nice place in the eastern part of the Netherlands.

We both have busy lives specially Clina who works near Amsterdam which is more than an hour away, especially with all those traffic jams. I am a little luckier in that respect. Being self-employed I can avoid those horrible congestions.

I hope you succeeded in exploring Melindas roots in Kentucky. Was her great- grandmother a Cherokee or a Shawnee? Very interesting stuff. As a kid I read a lot of indian stories.
