Knee high by the Fourth of July

This year I made my first attempt at a “vegetable garden”. A rather feeble attempt I might add. I don’t think I would be much of a successful farmer without a healthy dose of government subsidies (God bless America!). Passing as a gardener is out of the question as well, unless you credit growing weeds toward a green thumb. I’ve got a bumper crop of a wide variety of those.

Maybe it’s my computer programming background that is hampering my progress. I’m used to planning, coding and implementing a project, nice and logical like. Do this, then this, then a little of this… If done properly, it should work! Right? Wrong. Alas, the bane of my computer programming life has spilled over into my gardening… BUGS! Well, that and the fact that I have killed everything I’ve ever tried to grow in my life. But it keeps me off the streets, so that’s a good thing.

It’s been unusually cool here in Seattle this Spring and Summer. Right now my thermometer is reading 55 degrees (fahrenheit), on a July morning. It’s no wonder my garden won’t grow.
How is the weather where you are? Do any of the Vantslot.net readers have gardens? Do they grow, or is this lack of thumb pigment in the Van’t Slot family gene?

If you do garden, take some pictures and send them to me at james@vantslot.net. I will post them on the website and we can see if this is a family trait or just another item to add to the many of my own personal “issues”.
